President pressured Senate Republicans to ditch the filibuster and claimed Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., will strike a deal due to concern about the prospect of the GOP scrapping the procedural hurdle.Â

There comes a time when you must do what should have been done a long time ago, and something which the Lunatic Democrats will do on day one, if they ever get the chance. TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER, and get our airports, and everything else, moving again. Also, add the complete, all five items, SAVE AMERICA ACT items. Go for the Gold!!!” he declared in another post on Thursday.
The president’s plea comes as a Department of funding lapse has dragged on for more than a month.
The political stalemate has snarled security lines at airports as Transportation Security Administration officers go unpaid, with some departing the workforce or calling out.Â
If Republicans eliminated or weakened the filibuster, they could advance most legislation on their priorities with a simple majority, no longer needing Democratic votes to reach the 60-vote threshold required to end debate.
